Rupert joined Socrates to form Miltiadou Cook Mitzman Architects, autumn 2020. He was with his previous practice for more than 20 years, responsible for a broad portfolio of projects, including education, arts, and commercial works. He led the University sector work, also delivering projects across a broad range of sectors including housing, student residences, mixed commercial uses, arts and cultural buildings. 

Rupert brings extensive knowledge of sustainability, low-energy design, PassivHaus, hands-on knowledge of self-build projects and building boats. He is also experienced at working with projects involving large complex stakeholder groups.

Rupert is trustee of the charity, Higher Education Design Quality Forum (HEDQF) and is Co-Chair of the Research Group, publishing studies on design and influences in the sector.

He has lectured, been visiting critic for Schools of Architecture and he has been a member of the RIBA Validation Board.

Architecture awards include; Aston Martin Owners Club, RIBA Conservation award, Downland Prize and Civic Trust Award 2002, the Royal Veterinary College, Teaching and Research Center, S-Labs new build laboratory, runner-up. RIBA Awards shortlisting; Eastleigh College, Creative Skills and Advanced Technology buildings 2018, University of Solent Sports Complex and Promega UKHQ 2020

Socrates has been in private practice since 2000 and gained experience in a wide range of sectors that included residential interiors, social housing, commercial, hotel, retail and public.

While in practice Socrates was a visiting lecturer at the London Metropolitan School of Architecture and was accepted as a member of the BIID in 2009.

Socrates has been responsible for a number of large scale commercial and public buildings such as the £150m redevelopment of City Point, 5 Triton Square £45m, Dublin Dental Hospital, the masterplan of Tralee Regional Technical College, Ireland.

The practice has undertaken numerous, high specification residential and healthcare projects winning many awards including for the dental clinics.

Architecture and Interior Design awards include.; Stables Prices Yard - Lifetime Homes Award 2004, St. Georges Square -Idfx Interior Awards 2005, Hustler Hollywood, Birmingham - Retail and Leisure Designer of the Year 2005, Point West - BD design awards 2006. Chitra Setia Memorial Conservatory competition winner Regent’s Park 2012, Spartacus Alive, Yaroslavl International Competition winner 2013, RIBA regional award winner 2019.
